Drill 6mm pilot hole in existing wall. Drive in the tie and bed the outer end in the mortar as the new wythe is constructed.

Points to Note

The same procedures apply when adding a new wall to a solid wall, a cavity wall or a single wythe wall. StarTies are equally effective whether the new or existing wall is constructed from brick, block or stonework. If the ties are to be driven into existing mortar beds they must be sound and of adequate strength.
