Inspired Repairs

Period Property Preservation has used the Helibeam System and CemTies to restore to its original century Methodist Church at Ramsey, near Huntingdon.
At the base of its spire there was an old structural steel band, embedded in the centre of the 450mm thick tower walls, which had corroded over the years and expanded. This had resulted in lifting brickwork and disruption to the entire spire.
Engineers, ECM Associates, specified that a new 'band', with a minimum life expectancy of 50 years, be designed and installed using non-corrosive and non-disruptive materials which would stabilise the spire and reinstate the original 25kN tensile working load. The old corroded steel band was to be removed entirely and all voids to be grout filled without causing any further disturbance to the building fabric.
PPP was able to meet this remit, and complete all work within two weeks, by bonding pairs of HeliBar stainless steel rods into four separate bed joints, extending around all four elevations, and secured the buttress at the base of the tower by using angled CemTies.

Stone Walls Secured During Restaurant Conversion

The former police station in Orange Grove, Bath an attractive 19th century building, has undergone a major conversion to become a new addition to the Brown's Restaurant chain.
As part of this refurbishment by Street Construction (Wigan) Ltd, Approved Installer, TRAC Structural Ltd, secured the Bath stone dressing around several new openings created in the existing loose-filled rubble/stone walls.
A total of nine openings in the basement and on the first and second floors had to be reinforced and made safe. Although structurally sound, the rubble-filled walls and arches were stabilised using non-disruptive grouted CemTies to prevent any future bulging, particularly as some of the openings were both high and wide

Economical Dryfix Now Available to All

Now all contractors involved in masonry repair can benefit from the extremely versatile and economical DryFix remedial pinning and tying system. Probably the quickest, easiest and most cost-effective means available of replacing failed wall ties or securing de-bonded and delaminated masonry, DryFix is readily available direct from Helifix.

The significant feature of the DryFix system is it's speed of installation which allows costs to be significantly reduced. Using a unique, installation tool, the specially engineered Grade 316 austenitic stainless steel DryFix ties are simply power-driven into both leaves of masonry via a small pilot hole, which minimises masonry spalling.
The specially developed tool ensures fast, smooth installation of the slim helical ties and leaves the outer end recessed below the face of the masonry. It requires no grouts, resins or mechanical expansion, produces a solid, lasting, stress-free connection between materials and is effective in brick, block, concrete, strong mortar or wood. After minimal making good, the structure is left virtually unmarked.
